Blackout Arts was commissioned to provide the entertainment for the opening of the OPEN STUDIOS weekend at the huge and ever ambitious SPIKE ISLAND.
The programme included works produced and curated by Blackout Arts:
BUG PLANET - a sumptuous hybrid movie cut by VJ Rodell in which stunningly
shot nature film meets cult sci-fi in a live mix of insect sound and vision,
digitally processing original insect sound-recordings in a live musical re-score
by GRANZON NODO.
FLICKER - a performance/installation in which low-technology meets the digital world via R Kay Maclachlan's light-sculptures, capturing and processing the understaded imagery of plundered domestic technology and memorabilia with a host of mini-cameras, a vision mixer and a laptop computer. Sound is created by JEM NOBLE, gathered from a series of microphones and light-dependednt oscillators (www.bugbrand.com) on and around the sculptures, processed and re-configured into a live score.
FAUST - re-scored live by CUL DE SAC, F.W.MURNAUÍS 1926 black and white movie classic, re-scored with the rich and powerful sonic textures of the legendary US art-rock outfit.
