An elderly man looks out of his window. The pale lived-in skin of a face seen through glass his breath visible on the surface. Cold. Delicate. The blood under the skin spreads heat and life from within, this rainbow of warmth made visible blooms out for all to see. Rich. Radiant.
This visual motif, exhibited centrally on Tollgate House, will be an exploration of the fragility and quiet wonder of being alive and those simple, vital sensations of breath and body. With it Rod pays homage to the intense, colourful vibrancy of Fauvist paintings where 'wild beasts' see the world as an interplay of energy and light.
From footage filmed simultaneously from thermal imaging cameras and high-def video. The audio sound track will be able to be heard via a FM radio broadcast.
Utilising video, a performer and highly distinctive soundscaping this is another provocative audio-visual installation by Jem Noble of Blackout Arts.
'I Dream A Tower' is an audio-visual art work exploring the theme of ambition: its potential as both a creative and destructive force; its roles in personal, cultural and social development; and the way in which it informs and affects our engagement with the world.
The piece is a three-screen installation for super-scale projection on to Bristol's Tollgate House. The centre of the piece features an individual in a lift. The lift doors open, but she doesn't leave. The lift doors close. When they open again, she is still there, only something has happened. Each time the doors open her condition has changed - the mysterious effect of a hidden physical/psychological challenge.
The synchronised soundtrack will be accessible via FM radio broadcast.
