FLICKER on tour with murcof and bcn 216

Blackout Arts very own 'Flicker' will be touring with the Mexican electronic composer Murcof (Leaf Label) throughout the UK in November 2008. The visual sculptor Roderick Maclachlan will be harnessing his Flicker project to conjure up live visual sequences each night. The performance will also be a collaboration with highly regarded Spanish classical ensemble BCN 216 members Sergi Claret (viola), Juan Antoni Pich (cello) and Gerard Costes (Trombone). They all will be performing a brand new, specially composed suite of music entitled Océano.

The musical performance will take place in an all-encompassing visual environment created live each night by Roderick Maclachlan, who will conjure the visual environment Flicker, created by arcane projection techniques and choreographed lighting. The Flicker megascopes transform base materials of dust, water and organic matter, into mesmeric otherworldly imagery.

In preparation for these shows, BCN216 and Flicker will rehearse with Corona in Barcelona to bring this newly composed work to its full live potential. With previous works including video installations in caves, forests and mines and, as part of a Blackout Arts commission, projecting a triptych of his films onto an 18-storey tower block with audio carried city-wide via FM radio, Flicker’s involvement with this event takes it to another level.

Every bit the contemporary composer, Corona has released three acclaimed albums on The Leaf Label as Murcof, using technology to create monumental music with a deeply resonant spiritual undertow, drawing on minimalism, classical phrasing and haunting textures to move the mind and the heart. Océano promises to be be a truly overwhelming live experience and it is great that Flicker is on board. Murcof's music has always a inspiring soundtrack to some of Blackout Arts work, rest and play.

Also worth noting that 0pening each concert will be a joyous and free display of tuba virtuousity by Oren Marshall. Using a bank of electronic effects, he is able to twist the tuba's sound into new and wonderful shapes. He is known to bring tears to the eyes to audience members during his outstanding display at Venn 2006..
